Director of Engineering - 100% remote role
* Salary: Up to £125k +10% bonus

The Role:

This is a unique opportunity to lead and scale a modern engineering organisation while remaining close to the technology. As Director of Engineering, you'll act as a "player-coach"-responsible for growing and mentoring a team of 14-20 engineers, guiding architecture and delivery practices, and driving technical and cultural transformation.

You'll take ownership of team performance, agile process improvement, and cross-functional delivery, while embedding a culture of feedback, continuous learning, and operational excellence.


Key Responsibilities:

* Hire, mentor, and grow high-performing engineers and leaders
* Lead architecture and technical direction across full-stack teams
* Promote pragmatic, scalable solutions that deliver clear business value
* Improve agile practices to boost velocity and quality
* Drive a culture of transparency, trust, and team empowerment
* Partner with product and business stakeholders on roadmap alignment
* Guide adoption of DevOps, automation, and monitoring practices
* Support career development and create progression paths for engineers
* Lead complex, cross-team initiatives and remove delivery blockers


Essential Criteria:

* 5+ years in engineering leadership, with at least 1 year at Director level
* Track record managing 10+ engineers and scaling high-performing teams
* Strong background in Java, C#, or other object-oriented languages
* Solid understanding of Lean or Kanban software practices
* Skilled communicator and coach, comfortable leading cross-functional delivery
* Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and modern DevOps practices
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline
