Staff Engineer ( React Native )

Job description.

Staff Mobile Engineer - React Native

Location: Remote (UK Time Zone)

The Opportunity

We're working with a leading global software house to recruit a Staff Mobile Engineer with deep expertise in React Native. In this role, you will lead the consolidation and evolution of several high-performance mobile applications into a unified, best-in-class product experience. Designed for elite organisations and professional users, this platform demands architectural clarity, performance excellence, and exceptional design standards.

This is an opportunity to take technical ownership, influence cross-platform strategy, and shape mobile experiences that are used and trusted at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture and development of a unified mobile platform using React Native

  • Integrate and modernise legacy applications into a consistent, high-quality product

  • Build shared mobile infrastructure: themes, authentication flows, host containers, onboarding, and navigation patterns

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, Backend, QA) to develop scalable, reusable UI and logic

  • Optimise mobile performance on iOS and Android, identifying bottlenecks and enhancing reliability

  • Establish and advocate for best practices in testing, accessibility, performance, and user experience

  • Drive consistency in design systems, navigation, and mobile UX patterns

  • Contribute to a growing internal community of mobile engineers through mentoring and knowledge sharing

What We're Looking For

  • Extensive experience building production-grade mobile applications with React Native

  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript, mobile state management, and modular component architecture

  • Proven ability to design, consume, and collaborate on robust GraphQL or RESTful APIs

  • Strong performance debugging and tuning skills across both mobile platforms

  • Experience leading initiatives or teams-ideally in cross-platform or migration-focused projects

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while also mentoring and elevating those around you

Bonus Experience

  • Experience with end-to-end mobile testing frameworks (e.g. Detox, Appium)

  • Background in large-scale app migrations, platform consolidation, or monorepo structures

  • A track record of measurable mobile performance gains in shipping applications

Traits for Success

  • A user-focused mindset - you care deeply about intuitive design and seamless mobile UX

  • Acts as a technical multiplier - raising standards across the team through clarity and leadership

  • Strong communicator - able to collaborate effectively across time zones and functions

  • Highly organised and quality-driven - balancing delivery speed with clean, maintainable code

  • Humble, collaborative, and comfortable navigating ambiguity in high-trust environments

This role is ideal for a senior mobile engineer who sits at the intersection of architecture and user experience - someone who wants to build mobile technology that genuinely elevates performance and usability at scale.
