Network Services & Security Engineer

Remote - Northern Ireland

Our client, a leading global digital asset solutions provider, is seeking a Network Services & Security Engineer to support and enhance their secure, high-availability infrastructure.

About the Role

You will design, implement, and maintain network architecture across a global environment, ensuring reliability, performance, and security. This includes provisioning network equipment, managing firewalls and VPNs, monitoring performance, responding to incidents, and driving continuous improvements. You'll work closely with security teams, vendors, and telecom partners to deliver resilient, compliant network solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and review network architecture aligned with organisational and regulatory requirements
  • Install, configure, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, LAN/WAN/SD-WAN
  • Perform troubleshooting, incident response, post-mortems, and capacity planning
  • Oversee network security operations (NAC, NIDS/NIPS, segmentation, access control)
  • Monitor network performance and ensure 24/7 global reliability
  • Maintain accurate documentation of configurations, topology, and incidents
  • Manage vendor relationships and support procurement of network equipment

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, Layer 2/3, OSI model)
  • Experience with firewall configuration, VPNs, Zero Trust principles
  • Knowledge of telecom systems (VoIP, Avaya, voice/data networks)
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Zabbix, Nagios, Meraki, etc.)
  • Understanding of IDS/IPS, packet analysis, SSL/TLS inspection, log correlation
  • Experience with NAC, RADIUS/TACACS+, PKI, AD/LDAP integration
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Relevant certifications (Cisco, Aruba, Palo Alto, CompTIA Network+) are an advantage
