Staff Engineer ( JavaScript )

Job description.

Staff JavaScript Engineer

Location: Northern Ireland
Engagement: Permanent

OCHO is partnering with a global software house to appoint a Staff JavaScript Engineer with deep expertise in modern frontend architecture.

You will join a 54 strong engineering function in Northern Ireland and play a central role in consolidating multiple business critical web applications into a single, unified platform built for scale, performance, and long term maintainability.

This is a platform defining role. Not feature delivery at the edges, but architectural influence at the core.

The Opportunity

The organisation is evolving several legacy and semi modern applications into one cohesive product experience. The goal is consistency, performance, and scalability across the entire frontend estate.

You will have genuine ownership over architectural direction, frontend standards, and the patterns that will define how this platform evolves over the next number of years.

If you care about clean systems, reusable infrastructure, and long term frontend strategy, this will resonate.

What You'll Be Doing

* Leading the design and development of a unified frontend experience using React and TypeScript
* Modernising and consolidating multiple applications into one cohesive platform
* Building shared libraries and reusable infrastructure across layout, theming, authentication, navigation, and onboarding
* Defining scalable architectural patterns in collaboration with Product and Design
* Optimising performance, accessibility, and maintainability across large interfaces
* Raising standards across testing, documentation, and code quality
* Mentoring engineers through pair programming, design reviews, and knowledge sharing

This role combines deep hands on engineering with technical leadership across teams.

What We're Looking For

* Proven experience delivering production grade applications using React and TypeScript
* Strong understanding of state management and modular component design
* Experience designing and consuming RESTful or GraphQL APIs
* A track record improving performance and reliability in complex frontend codebases
* Confidence leading large scale initiatives and mentoring other engineers
* Clear communicator able to guide architectural conversations across engineering, product, and design

Bonus Experience

* Exposure to monorepos or shared component systems
* Experience with end to end testing tools such as Cypress or Playwright
* Delivery of large scale refactors, platform migrations, or design system integrations

What Success Looks Like

You advocate for consistency and thoughtful architecture.

You raise the technical bar across the frontend function.

You deliver scalable, maintainable, well tested systems and help others do the same.

You take ownership of the user experience at scale.

Why Join

This is a high influence role within a mature 54 person engineering organisation where quality genuinely matters.

You will have autonomy, architectural voice, and the backing of a business that values modern engineering practice and developer experience.
