Director / VP of DevOps - UK/ROI (Remote)

This global technology organisation supports a large portfolio of enterprise software partners, operating a highly distributed, multi-cloud platform at scale.
Following a recent transformation, the business is investing heavily in AI-driven engineering, automation, and platform modernisation, shifting toward a more senior, high-leverage engineering model focused on speed, efficiency, and reliability.
The Role:
This is a critical leadership position responsible for defining and executing the DevOps, Cloud, and Platform Engineering strategy across a complex, high-availability environment.
You will lead globally distributed teams across DevOps, SRE, and Cloud Engineering, with a strong focus on automation, scalability, and operational excellence.
Crucially, this role requires an AI-first mindset - understanding how AI can transform software delivery, remove bottlenecks, and significantly increase engineering velocity.
Key Responsibilities:
* Define and execute the long-term DevOps and Platform Engineering strategy across multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
* Lead and develop senior engineers and managers across DevOps, SRE, and Cloud teams
* Drive an automation-first culture, leveraging AI to improve deployment speed, reliability, and efficiency
* Evolve CI/CD pipelines to support high-frequency, high-confidence releases
* Identify and eliminate delivery bottlenecks across DevOps, infrastructure, and release processes
* Build and enhance observability (logs, metrics, tracing) to improve performance, stability, and incident response
* Partner with Engineering, Security, and Product leadership to ensure scalable and secure delivery practices
* Own cloud cost strategy and optimisation across large-scale environments
* Champion developer experience through self-service tooling and streamlined workflows
* Provide clear reporting, KPIs, and risk visibility to executive stakeholders
* Influence engineering culture toward AI-augmented, high-performance teams
Essential Criteria:
* Proven experience leading DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering at Director or VP level
* Strong experience across cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) within complex distributed systems
* Deep expertise in CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, containerisation, and modern deployment strategies
* Demonstrated ability to scale and modernise engineering practices across multiple teams
* Strong understanding of observability, reliability engineering, and incident management
AI Mindset (Critical):
* Strong understanding of how AI can transform software delivery and engineering productivity
* Experience applying AI tools (e.g. Copilot or similar) to improve development and DevOps workflows
* Ability to move beyond basic AI usage and think in terms of:
- Automation at scale
- Agent-based workflows
- Managing systems by exception
- * Focus on business impact and efficiency gains, not just tooling
* Excellent stakeholder management across engineering, product, and executive teams
* Experience managing cloud spend and operational budgets
