About Our Client
Ocho People are proud to be partnering with a well-established, technology-first business headquartered in New York City. Our client operates complex, high-availability platforms that serve a large and demanding user base, with engineering at the core of how the business competes and grows. The infrastructure team plays a critical role in enabling fast, reliable software delivery across a modern cloud-native stack. With a collaborative engineering culture, real investment in tooling and developer experience, and a team that takes operational excellence seriously, this is a strong environment for a DevOps Engineer looking to do meaningful work at scale.
The Role
This is a hands-on DevOps Engineer role for someone who wants genuine ownership of the infrastructure and delivery tooling that keeps production running smoothly. You will work closely with software engineers, architects, and platform leads to build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, manage cloud environments, and continuously raise the bar on reliability, security, and developer experience. The role sits at the intersection of platform engineering and software delivery — you will be equally comfortable scripting automation, reviewing infrastructure changes, and collaborating on architectural decisions. If you care about the craft of building reliable systems and want your work to have direct impact on engineering velocity, this is the role for you.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines that enable fast, reliable, and safe software delivery across multiple engineering teams
• Manage and evolve cloud infrastructure on AWS (or GCP/Azure), ensuring scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency
• Own containerised workload orchestration using Kubernetes, including cluster management, scaling, and operational health
• Implement and maintain infrastructure-as-code across all environments using Terraform or equivalent tooling
• Build and improve observability across the platform — monitoring, alerting, logging, and distributed tracing
• Drive security best practices across cloud environments, including secrets management, access controls, and vulnerability remediation
• Collaborate with software engineers to streamline local development workflows, build environments, and deployment processes
• Respond to and lead resolution of infrastructure incidents, conducting thorough post-incident reviews
• Identify and deliver automation opportunities that reduce toil and improve operational efficiency across the team
What You’ll Need
Essential
• 4+ years’ experience in a DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering role
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS (or GCP/Azure) at production scale
• Solid Kubernetes experience — cluster management, workload orchestration, and day-two operations
• Infrastructure-as-code proficiency with Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation
• Proven CI/CD pipeline experience using GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Jenkins, ArgoCD, or equivalent
• Comfortable with Docker and containerised application environments
• Scripting ability in Python, Bash, or Go for automation and tooling tasks
• Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Datadog, Prometheus/Grafana, or Splunk
• Right to work in the USA without restriction; able to commute to New York City
Desirable / Nice to Have
• Experience in a regulated or high-compliance industry such as financial services, healthcare, or fintech
• Familiarity with service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd) or advanced Kubernetes networking
• Exposure to platform engineering practices — internal developer platforms, golden paths, or self-service tooling
Why Apply?
• Base salary $140,000–$175,000 depending on experience
• Hybrid working — strong in-office culture with genuine home working flexibility
• Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage; 401(k) with company match
• Real ownership of infrastructure — this is not a ticket-queue role
• Modern, cloud-native stack with investment in tooling and engineering quality
• Collaborative team with a strong culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
