Why This Organisation
Most QA roles ask you to execute a test plan someone else wrote. This one asks you to own the entire quality engineering function for a platform used by banks, governments and regulated organisations worldwide.
Our client is a next generation technology company building identity, entity resolution and risk intelligence software that helps organisations understand exactly who they are doing business with. They combine large scale data processing, entity resolution, graph intelligence and modern cloud architecture in a high stakes, compliance grade environment where quality is not optional — it is foundational to everything the platform does.
The team is small, high trust and deliberately low on bureaucracy. There are no layers of process to navigate and no one handing you a ticket queue. There is a genuinely hard engineering problem, a senior team that respects expertise and an expectation that you will shape how quality engineering works here from the ground up.
If you are a QA engineer who has spent your career executing against someone else's strategy and is ready to own one of your own, this is the opportunity.
The Role and What It Can Do For Your Career
This is a Senior QA Automation Engineer position with a scope that most quality engineers never get near. You will define the overall testing strategy across multiple products and services, build the automation that underpins every release and introduce the tooling and practices that give the engineering team genuine confidence in a complex, distributed system.
The hardest failures on this platform do not come from simple request and response interactions. They come from distributed systems, asynchronous messaging, batch processing, retry logic, dead letter queues and long running screening operations. You will build the automation that surfaces those failures before they reach production. That kind of deep experience testing event driven, compliance grade systems at this level is rare and highly transferable.
Within your first six months you will be the technical lead for quality engineering across the entire platform. That is not a title change — it is real ownership of real scope, with the authority to shape the testing culture of the whole engineering team.
The stack is TypeScript and JavaScript, Playwright, contract testing with Pact or similar, Docker, LocalStack, seeded MongoDB datasets, GitHub Actions CI and CD pipelines and modern React on the frontend.
What you will need:
• 4 or more years of experience in test automation, QA engineering or SDET roles
• Strong software engineering skills in TypeScript or JavaScript
• Deep experience with Playwright, or Cypress with a willingness to adopt Playwright
• Experience testing modern React applications and REST APIs
• Experience testing distributed or event driven systems including asynchronous workflows
• Experience designing integration testing strategies across multiple services
• Experience building or introducing contract testing using Pact or similar
• Strong understanding of CI and CD pipelines, ideally GitHub Actions
• Comfortable writing clear, reproducible bug reports and performing exploratory testing
Nice to Have:
• Docker, Docker Compose, LocalStack and MongoDB experience for test data seeding and verification
• Experience with Vitest, Jest and React Testing Library
• Experience testing OAuth2, OIDC, RBAC and IDOR, or a background in compliance, KYC and AML or fintech
Why You Should Apply Now
If you have been looking for a role where you own the quality strategy rather than execute against it, where the engineering problems are genuinely hard and where your work directly shapes the reliability of a platform trusted by banks and governments, this is it.
Salary up to £65,000. Fully remote across the UK. Full time role.
