About the Company
Our client is a specialist cybersecurity company focused on Operational Technology (OT) — the systems behind critical infrastructure including energy networks, airports, water and manufacturing environments where a security failure has real world consequences. With a customer base spanning Australia, the US, the EU and beyond, they are now building out a Belfast research and development function to develop the next generation of their software platform. The mandate is clear: build a suite of cybersecurity products for the OT and critical infrastructure market, with modern AI at the core of the architecture. This is a rare opportunity to join at the ground floor and help shape something genuinely important.
The Role
This is a Senior Software Engineer position and the second engineering hire on the Belfast team. You will work directly alongside the VP of Engineering to design, build and ship a modern OT Cybersecurity Awareness Training and Compliance Platform end to end. The initial product is a Learning Management System built specifically for industrial operators, plant engineers, control room staff and the compliance teams responsible for them — but the technical foundations you lay will underpin everything the company builds next. You will write production code across web, mobile, API and cloud, and you will have genuine influence over architecture, technology choices, development workflow and how the team evolves as it scales. If you are an experienced full stack engineer who is excited by ownership, speed and the chance to build something that matters, this is worth a conversation.
Key Responsibilities
• Build customer facing web and mobile experiences using React and React Native (Expo)
• Design and implement APIs, data models and cloud architecture on AWS including CDK, AppSync, Lambda, RDS, Aurora, S3, Cognito and IAM
• Share operational responsibility for the live platform with the VP of Engineering, covering reliability, performance and on call response
• Embed AI capabilities including LLMs, RAG and agentic patterns into the product where they create genuine value
• Help define engineering standards, observability, CI and CD practices and ways of working day to day
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technology choices as the team and product evolve
What You'll Need
Essential:
• 5 or more years of relevant full stack engineering experience
• Demonstrably strong TypeScript skills, ideally within React or React Native
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, ideally within AWS environments
• Comfortable working at pace in a start up environment with a high degree of autonomy
• Right to work in the UK or Ireland
• Strong team player who is self motivated and takes real ownership of their work
Nice to Have:
• AWS experience, particularly with serverless and event driven architectures
• Knowledge of CI and CD, deployment automation and Git management
• Experience with API integration, pipeline or automation design
• Previous experience as a tech lead, or a strong interest in growing into that responsibility
• Familiarity with Learning Management Systems or SCORM 1.2 and 2004 standards
Why Apply?
• Salary up to £85,000
• Hybrid working with a Belfast base
• Second engineering hire, rare level of ownership over a greenfield platform build
• Direct collaboration with the VP of Engineering from day one
• Real influence over architecture, technology choices and team culture as you grow
• Meaningful work protecting critical infrastructure across global markets
• Modern AI first tech stack with the freedom to do things the right way
• Ground floor opportunity at a scaleup with international reach and serious ambition
