Kotlin Developer (Contract)
Overview
Ocho is delighted to be working on behalf of our client to recruit a Senior Kotlin Developer for a major platform modernisation programme.
This is a high-impact contract opportunity focused on migrating a large-scale, business-critical platform from a legacy C++ codebase into a modern Kotlin architecture. This is not a side project. It is a strategic transformation with long-term investment, real technical complexity and strong leadership backing.
You'll join an experienced engineering team working at the centre of this migration, helping shape the future architecture while solving complex systems-level challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Design and build core Kotlin services as part of a major platform migration
Analyse and understand existing C++ codebases, translating logic into clean and scalable Kotlin solutions
Collaborate with senior engineers and architects to define migration strategy, standards and technical patterns
Write clean, maintainable and well-tested production-grade code
Identify and solve integration challenges between legacy and modern platform components
Contribute to code reviews and technical discussions across the engineering team
Document architectural decisions and migration progress
Work closely within agile teams to deliver incremental value across the migration roadmap
The Person We Are Looking For
Strong commercial Kotlin development experience in production environments
5+ years of software engineering experience
Experience working on complex platform, backend or systems-level applications
Ability to read and understand C++ codebases
Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns and engineering best practice
Comfortable working in agile delivery environments
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Previous migration experience would be highly beneficial
Experience with JVM performance tuning or low-latency systems would be advantageous
Contract Details
12-month contract
Outside IR35
Up to £500 per day
Hybrid model with 2 days per week in Belfast and the remainder remote
Strong potential for extension
