Software Team Lead - Regulatory Technology Platform
At-a-Glance
- Lead a high-impact engineering team building a next-generation financial reporting platform
- Java, Spring Boot, Postgres, Aurora, React, AWS/EKS
- Hybrid working, Belfast
- A leadership role for engineers who want to stay close to the technology, not step away from it
About the Company
My client is a world-leading provider of market infrastructure, connecting clients to global financial and commodities markets through superior liquidity and data solutions. Operating from more than 60 offices across 27 countries, they are recognised as one of the largest players in their sector globally. This role sits within a team building genuinely strategic, next-generation technology supporting regulatory compliance at scale.
The Role
You will lead a team building a regulatory reporting platform, working with Java, Spring Boot, Postgres, Aurora, React, and an AWS-native, EKS-containerised stack. This is not a hands-off management role... you will be deeply involved in architecture conversations, reviewing code, and helping the team work through technical problems, while owning delivery, prioritisation and people leadership for a team of around 8 to 12 engineers. You will represent the team in front of stakeholders across operations, compliance and senior management, and the team already uses AI tooling day to day, so genuine comfort with modern engineering practices matters. This suits someone who has built things themselves and wants to keep that technical credibility while growing into broader leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead architecture discussions and code reviews across the team, without owning day-to-day feature delivery
- Line manage 8 to 12 engineers, including one-to-ones, mid-year and end-year reviews
- Own delivery planning and prioritisation, working closely with the product owner via Jira
- Make or escalate incident and resolution decisions as they arise
- Represent the team at risk meetings and with regulatory, compliance and senior stakeholders
- Support the team's use of AI tooling for test cases and proof-of-concept work
- Manage release processes, change approval boards and internal release administration
- Coach and develop both high and low performers across the team
What You'll Need
Essential:
- Previous hands-on software engineering background in Java and Spring Boot
- Experience with cloud-native, containerised architecture (AWS, EKS, Docker)
- Comfortable explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Some prior people-management exposure, or strong evidence of leading through influence and communication
- Genuine engineering credibility... this is not a role for a pure project manager or Scrum Master moving into technical leadership
Desirable / Nice to Have:
- Regulatory reporting or financial services domain knowledge
- Experience with React on the front end
Why Apply?
- Hybrid working based in Belfast
- A leadership role that keeps you close to real engineering decisions, not just process
- Join one of the world's largest market infrastructure providers, with genuine scale and stability
- Work on a strategic, next-generation platform with direct business impact
- Modern engineering culture, including active use of AI tooling in day-to-day delivery
