About the Company
Our client is a global leader in digital asset innovation, building technology that bridges traditional finance and the emerging crypto economy. Their mission is to create trusted, high-performance systems that let institutions integrate digital assets into their portfolios and operations with confidence.
Belfast has been chosen as the location for their next major engineering investment, a new global R&D hub that will anchor their international growth for years to come. This is inward investment on a serious scale, and an early hire here sits at the centre of that story, not on the periphery of it.
The Role
You'll join a brand-new engineering pod in Belfast tasked with building a real-time exchange connection layer that synchronises data across multiple cryptocurrency exchanges. This forms the backbone of a new trading platform launching next year, and you'll be one of the first engineers writing the code that defines how it's built.
Working closely with the global engineering team, you'll design, develop, and optimise low-latency systems handling large, real-time data flows. As Belfast scales into the hub it's designed to become, this pod will grow further, with QA, DevOps, and Support Engineers joining around the foundation you help set.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain real-time systems connecting multiple crypto exchanges
- Build event-driven architectures that synchronise large volumes of data efficiently
- Optimise JVM performance and contribute to high-availability, low-latency system design
- Collaborate with developers and stakeholders across Belfast and the wider global team to deliver robust, scalable solutions
- Participate in agile development cycles, driving continuous improvement and technical excellence
- Help shape engineering standards and practices for the Belfast hub as it grows
What You'll Need
Essential:
- 2+ years of software engineering experience, strong Java preferred, other languages considered if willing to pick up Java quickly
- Strong understanding of object-oriented design and distributed system principles
- Experience with AWS and event-driven architectures
- Familiarity with messaging or streaming systems such as Kafka
- A strong problem-solving mindset with genuine interest in performance optimisation
Desirable / Nice to Have:
- Exposure to financial systems or trading environments
- Crypto knowledge or enthusiasm for the space
Why Apply?
- Salary up to £55,000 depending on experience, plus bonus and benefits package
- Be a founding member of Belfast's newest global R&D hub, not just another hire into an established team
- Shape core architecture from day one on a platform launching next year
- Work on cutting-edge digital asset and trading technology used by institutions worldwide
- High degree of autonomy and ownership within a collaborative, supportive environment
- Genuine long-term career progression as the Belfast hub expands around you
- Competitive annual leave and benefits package
