About the Company
Our client is a fast-scaling, technology-first organisation operating at the intersection of hardware, data, and enterprise software. They are building next-generation telematics infrastructure that connects physical assets to intelligent software systems, enabling real-time visibility, predictive analytics, and operational efficiency at significant scale. Backed by substantial investment and with a rapidly growing global engineering team, they are at an exciting stage of their journey. This is a business where engineers work on problems that genuinely matter, using modern tooling and with real ownership over the systems they build.
The Role
This is a rare Staff Engineer opportunity to work on the next generation of a telematics platform that processes high-volume data streams from connected assets in the field. You will operate at the intersection of distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and data engineering, helping to shape the architecture of systems that need to be fast, reliable, and scalable by design. Working closely with product and engineering leadership, you will lead technical initiatives from the ground up, set the bar for engineering standards, and have a direct hand in how this platform evolves. If you are drawn to problems with real complexity and want to build something that has never quite been built before, this is the role.
Key Responsibilities
• Architect and deliver core components of a next-generation telematics platform, from ingestion through to processing and visualisation
• Lead technical design discussions and drive architectural decisions that prioritise scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability
• Build and maintain high-throughput, low-latency services using Python and Java on AWS cloud infrastructure
• Own the end-to-end lifecycle of engineering initiatives, from conception and design through to deployment and iteration
• Define and champion engineering best practices across the team, raising the standard for code quality, testing, and system design
• Mentor and develop engineers across the team, helping to grow technical capability and foster a strong engineering culture
• Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to align technical strategy with business objectives
What You'll Need
Essential:
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of operating at a senior or staff level
• Strong hands-on experience with Python and Java in production environments
• Deep experience with AWS and cloud-native architecture patterns
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, data streaming, and high-throughput backend services
• Prior technical leadership or staff-level influence, including architectural ownership and cross-team collaboration
• Must reside in Northern Ireland and hold the right to work in the UK
Desirable / Nice to Have:
• Experience in telematics, IoT, connected hardware, or asset tracking platforms
• Exposure to real-time data pipelines, event-driven architecture, or time-series data processing
Why Apply?
• Salary up to £120,000 depending on experience
• Fully remote for Northern Ireland-based engineers
• Exclusive Ocho People role... this opportunity is not on the open market
• Work on a genuinely next-generation telematics platform with real architectural complexity and scale
• Staff-level ownership and influence over technical direction from day one
• Strong progression potential within a rapidly scaling global engineering organisation
