AI Forward Deployed Engineer (Insurance)

Job description.

AI Forward Deployed Engineer (Insurance)

At-a-Glance

  • Hands-on AI engineering role embedded directly with insurance clients
  • Python, TypeScript or Java, building LLM and agentic solutions on AWS, Azure or GCP
  • Hybrid, UK-based, with time on client sites
  • Salary up to £95,000 plus benefits

About the Company

Our client is one of the world's largest IT services and consulting firms, working with enterprise customers across every major sector to deliver AI advisory and solutions that produce real business results. Their AI Practice already has a strong reputation and is scaling fast through 2026. They offer the backing and reach of a global business, with local teams trusted to move quickly and make their own calls.

The Role

This is a build role, not an advisory one. You'll sit inside insurance clients' teams, get to the root of the problem first-hand and then design, build and ship the production AI solution yourself. You'll work within each client's real systems, data and legacy estate, so no two engagements look the same. You'll collaborate with engineering, architecture, product and account teams, and feed what you learn in the field back into the core platform. People who thrive here are self-driven, curious, comfortable with ambiguity and happiest when they're writing code that real users rely on.

Key Responsibilities

  • Embed with insurance client teams to understand their objectives, challenges and desired outcomes first-hand
  • Design, build and ship production-grade AI software that solves specific client problems
  • Prototype rapidly in tight feedback loops with end users, moving from concept to working software in days
  • Lead discovery, assessment and solution planning, turning business needs directly into technical implementation
  • Own the full solution lifecycle, from design and development through deployment, adoption and measuring results
  • Integrate with each client's existing tech stack, legacy systems and imperfect data
  • Work with structured and unstructured insurance data such as claims records, policy data, loss histories and documents
  • Build trusted relationships with technical, business and senior stakeholders
  • Feed field learnings, patterns and product gaps back to product and engineering teams
  • Contribute reusable code assets, methodologies and best practice across the practice

What You'll Need

Essential:

  • 6-10 years in software engineering, solution architecture or customer engineering, with hands-on coding throughout
  • A proven track record of building and shipping production software, not only designing or overseeing it
  • Strong proficiency in Python, TypeScript/JavaScript or Java, and the flexibility to work across stacks
  • Working knowledge of AI, machine learning, LLMs and agentic AI, applied in practice
  • Experience with AWS, Azure or Google Cloud, APIs and integration patterns
  • Insurance or insurtech domain knowledge, such as underwriting, claims, policy administration, pricing or fraud
  • Experience working directly with enterprise customers in client-facing or embedded settings
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or a related field, or equivalent experience

Desirable / Nice to Have:

  • Cloud or AI certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, Azure AI Engineer or Google Cloud ML Engineer
  • Experience with reinsurance, broker channels or distribution
  • A consultancy or systems integrator background

Why Apply?

  • Salary up to £95,000
  • Hybrid working with flexible options
  • Benefits supporting physical, emotional and financial wellbeing
  • Continuous learning and development through a dedicated L&D team
  • Real impact... your code goes live with major insurers, not into a slide deck
  • An inclusive culture with active networks for women, LGBTQ+, neurodiversity, parents and more
