The Role

This is a great opportunity for a Java Developer looking to build on their commercial experience within a supportive, well-structured engineering team. You will work on real, live systems from day one, contributing to backend development, APIs, and application features. Whether you are a recent graduate with some commercial exposure or a developer a few years into your career, this role offers genuine variety, mentorship, and a clear path to progression.

 

Key Responsibilities

        Develop and maintain Java-based applications and backend services

        Build and consume REST APIs as part of broader system integrations

        Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code

        Contribute to code reviews and ongoing improvement of engineering standards

        Collaborate with developers, testers, and stakeholders across the delivery lifecycle

        Troubleshoot and resolve defects and technical issues

        Support deployment and testing activities within an Agile environment

 

What You'll Need

 

Essential:

        Commercial or project-based experience with Java

        Understanding of object-oriented programming principles

        Some exposure to REST APIs and web services

        Eagerness to learn, take ownership, and contribute to a team

        Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively

        Based in Belfast or commutable for hybrid working

 

Desirable:

        Familiarity with Spring or Spring Boot

        Exposure to SQL or relational databases

        Experience working in Agile or Scrum teams
