Our client is a modern, cloud-native digital consultancy delivering exceptional engineering, composable commerce solutions, and data-driven digital experiences. With a highly experienced team of around 50 people, they operate on a remote-first basis and are scaling at pace. They take a considered approach to hiring, prioritising people who bring something new to the team, not just technical skills.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Senior UI Engineer, you will design and build high-quality, performant, and cohesive user interfaces across a range of client projects and internal products. Collaborating closely with back-end engineers, UX designers, and visual designers, your day-to-day will include:
- Determining the structure, layout, and behaviour of modern web interfaces
- Implementing responsive, accessible, mobile-first user interfaces using HTML, CSS, SASS, and modern JavaScript/TypeScript
- Building robust and maintainable React and applications, including SSR and statically-generated pages
- Developing features that enhance user experience while balancing functional and aesthetic considerations
- Ensuring consistent application of brand and design guidelines across digital products
- Optimising web pages for speed, scalability, and smooth user interactions
- Writing clean, readable, reusable, and testable front-end code, including front-end test suites using tools such as Jest
- Debugging, diagnosing, and resolving functional, visual, and performance issues
- Working closely with UX and product designers to translate design concepts into production-ready UI using Figma or Adobe XD
- Building UI layers on top of REST and GraphQL APIs in close collaboration with back-end teams
- Communicating design and implementation decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

As a senior voice, you will also help mentor and elevate the engineers around you, contributing to a culture of craft and continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
- Strong proficiency in core web technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript (ES6+), and TypeScript
- Experience building production-grade React and applications, including routing, data fetching (App Router / Pages Router), and SSR pages and components
- Strong understanding of UI/UX design principles and how user experience influences implementation
- Strong understanding of responsive, adaptive, and mobile-first design
- Experience building and maintaining reusable component libraries with an emphasis on scalability, accessibility, and clean semantic code
- Experience working with design tools such as Figma or Adobe XD
- Understanding of SEO principles relevant to front-end engineering
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable
- Experience with bundling and build tools such as Webpack and Babel
- Familiarity with accessibility (a11y) standards and best practices
- Experience working within cross-functional product teams
- Knowledge of performance profiling tools and approaches
- Experience contributing to design systems or reusable component libraries
