About the Company

Our client is a fast-growing, innovative technology business, scaling rapidly both organically and through acquisition. Operating at pace in a competitive, fast-moving market, they are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Financial Controller to lead the finance function and support the next phase of the company's growth.

The Role

This is a genuinely broad, hands-on role combining strong day-to-day financial control with a real seat at the senior leadership table. You will be responsible for maintaining robust financial control while also providing the insight, challenge and commercial commentary needed to support decision-making as the business scales, including advising directly on strategy and how to fuel continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and review of monthly management accounts, providing clear commentary on performance, variances, risks and opportunities
  • Proactively investigate unusual results and trends, and present financial information and recommendations directly to the Managing Director and Board
  • Analyse customer, service and project profitability - pricing strategies
  • Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting processes, including cash-flow forecasting and working-capital management
  • Prepare financial models and scenario analysis to support business planning, including around acquisitions and integration
  • Provide financial input into pricing, customer contracts, investment decisions and new business opportunities, challenging assumptions where needed
  • Maintain effective financial controls, reconciliations and approval processes, ensuring accuracy and integrity of accounting records
  • Oversee VAT, HMRC reporting, payroll administration and pension arrangements
  • Coordinate year-end accounts preparation, working with external accountants and auditors
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control and banking processes
  • Review finance systems and processes, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, automation and reporting quality
  • Lead, support and develop the finance team, acting as a trusted adviser to the Managing Director, Board and operational managers

What You'll Need

Essential:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Significant experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or senior commercial finance role
  • Strong management accounting, financial reporting and balance-sheet control experience
  • Practical experience of budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management and financial analysis
  • Experience presenting financial information to directors or senior leaders
  • Strong commercial judgement and the confidence to challenge assumptions
  • Strong communication skills, able to explain financial matters clearly to non-finance stakeholders

Why Apply

  • Genuine seat at the senior leadership table, advising directly on strategy and growth, not just reporting on results after the fact
  • Broad, hands-on remit spanning day-to-day finance operations through to Board-level commercial input
  • Join a fast-scaling, innovative business at an exciting stage of growth through acquisition
