About the Company
Our client is a world leading technology organisation operating at significant global scale — 60 offices, 27 countries, over 5,200 people. Their engineering teams build and maintain business critical systems that process enormous volumes of data and transactions daily, and they take the quality of that engineering seriously. Self organising, cross functional Agile teams, a genuine focus on cloud native architecture and automation, and a culture built around continuous improvement and knowledge sharing. This is not a company where engineers are told what to build and left to get on with it — they are involved in shaping technical direction from day one.
Why Work Here?
This is a company that is genuinely investing in Belfast. They have hired 12 engineers here already this year — not as a cost saving exercise, but because they are building serious engineering capability in Northern Ireland for the long term. The Belfast team is not a satellite office doing maintenance work. It is a core part of a global engineering organisation tackling complex, large scale problems with modern technology and real autonomy.
If you are a senior engineer who wants to work somewhere that takes engineering seriously, gives you the scope to influence how things are built, and surrounds you with people who care about the craft, this is worth exploring. The problems are hard, the systems are real, and the opportunity to grow is genuine.
Key Responsibilities
• Collaborate with Solution Architects and Principal Engineers to design and implement solutions aligned with IT strategy and technical vision
• Take ownership of engineering deliverables, ensuring quality, scalability and adherence to best practices
• Design and develop distributed, event driven, cloud native systems across the full software development lifecycle
• Build and maintain REST and GraphQL APIs to a high standard
• Drive continuous improvement by exploring new technologies, tools and methodologies
• Mentor and support team members, fostering a culture of learning and technical excellence
• Communicate progress effectively and proactively raise impediments to minimise delivery risks
• Build automated testing solutions for complex systems
What You'll Need
Essential:
• Proven experience designing, developing and maintaining distributed, event driven, cloud native systems
• Expertise in modern .NET technologies (.NET Framework and .NET Core) using C#
• Strong experience in API design and development across REST and GraphQL
• Solid understanding of relational database design and optimisation with MSSQL or MySQL
• Hands on experience deploying and managing cloud environments on AWS or Azure
• Comprehensive knowledge of the full SDLC with proactive involvement across design, development, QA and post release support
• Strong problem solving skills and ability to validate approaches through proof of concepts
• Experience building automated testing solutions for complex systems
• Ability to balance pragmatism with innovation and deliver high quality solutions under tight deadlines
Nice to Have:
• Proficiency in WPF application development
• Experience with AWS serverless architecture and microservices
• Familiarity with Java, JavaScript or React
• Understanding of TDD, BDD or similar testing methodologies
