About the Company
A large, global professional services practice with a genuinely fast-growing Belfast operation, increasingly recognised as one of the standout growth stories in the local market. The firm has deliberately invested in building out its Corporate & Transactions Tax capability, driven by a client portfolio that has expanded well beyond the local market into serious, sustained international activity, particularly across the US and ROI. This is a firm scaling with real intent.
The Role
This is a newly created Director-level position, reflecting genuine expansion. You will lead on complex corporate and transactions tax work, including tax due diligence, corporate restructures, shareholder exits and international tax matters such as withholding taxes, debt financing, corporate residency, permanent establishments and the tax structuring of international corporate groups. With the client base increasingly weighted towards US and international transactions, this role offers exposure well beyond what's typically available in the local market, working on high-profile, cross-border deals alongside senior colleagues and international teams.
Key Responsibilities
● Lead tax due diligence workstreams on corporate transactions, advising on risk, exposure and structuring
● Advise on corporate restructures and shareholder exits from both a corporate and shareholder tax perspective
● Structure and advise on international tax matters: withholding taxes, debt financing, corporate residency and permanent establishment risk
● Advise on the tax structuring of international corporate groups, with particular focus on US and ROI cross-border activity
● Act as a senior, trusted advisor to clients on the tax risk and planning implications of transactions
● Build and develop relationships with international teams and referral networks to support the growing US/ROI transaction pipeline
● Play a leading role in developing junior team members as the team continues to scale
● Contribute to business development activity, supporting the firm's continued growth in this space
Essential:
● Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA), Chartered Accountant (ACA/ACCA) or equivalent qualification
● Strong background in corporate and transactions tax, ideally including tax due diligence and M&A-related advisory work
● Experience advising on corporate restructures and shareholder exits
● Knowledge of international tax issues: withholding taxes, debt financing, corporate residency, permanent establishments
● Comfortable operating at senior stakeholder level, both with clients and internally
● Track record of managing complex compliance obligations alongside advisory work
Desirable:
● Direct experience on US-inbound or US-related international transactions
● Experience developing or mentoring junior tax professionals
● Existing network or referral relationships that could support international deal flow
Why Apply
● A newly created Director role at a firm genuinely investing in and scaling this practice area
● Serious, sustained exposure to US and international transactions, rare at this level in the local market
● A clearly defined, achievable progression path beyond Director
● Remuneration at the top of the market
● Flexible hybrid working, can be as little as 1 day in the office
● Genuine opportunity to shape and grow a scaling team
